Children are provided with opportunities to learn through both carefully planned experiences and unstructured play. These experiences support their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development, encouraging them to explore, discover, and build confidence in a nurturing environment.
About Us
Gumnuts has been an essential part of the Goomalling community providing quality local childcare for almost 20 years. It is a positive, friendly and affectionate place of inclusion and warmth.
We are a small not-for-profit centre and operate thanks to the dedication of parent volunteers and support from the Shire and wider community.

Experienced Educators
Our dedicated and experienced educators support each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through nurturing relationships, meaningful interactions, and positive role modelling. We create a welcoming environment where children feel valued, respected, and supported to grow in confidence and independence.
At Gumnuts, children learn through a balance of planned educational experiences and unstructured play, reflecting our commitment to a play-based approach to learning. Through engaging and responsive teaching practices, we encourage curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and a lifelong love of learning.
We recognise and build upon each child’s unique strengths, skills, and knowledge, creating learning opportunities that inspire engagement, exploration, and achievement.
Our experienced team brings a wealth of knowledge and continuity to the service. Eshana has been part of the Gumnuts family for over 12 years, while Karen has contributed more than 15 years of service through both her role within the team and her involvement on the volunteer committee. Tahnie brings over 10 years of experience in early childhood education, and Bec, our Early Childhood Teacher, designs and delivers our engaging educational programs and weekly learning experiences that support every child’s growth and development.

Experiences
At Gumnuts, our daily routine is designed to provide children with a balance of learning, play, rest, and social interaction. Each day includes opportunities for free play, child-centred experiences, snack and meal times, sleep and rest periods, and group mat sessions that encourage participation and connection.
What We Do
Our educational program is carefully planned by our Early Childhood Teacher and is guided by children’s interests, seasonal themes, and community events. Through a play-based approach, children are encouraged to explore, create, discover, and develop important lifelong skills.
Children enjoy a wide range of experiences, including:
Daily planned learning experiences tailored to children's interests and developmental needs.
Creative activities such as painting, craft, collage, construction, and a variety of mixed-media projects that encourage self-expression and imagination.
Physical and outdoor play, including sand and water play, obstacle courses, climbing equipment, ball games, swings, bikes, and scooters to support gross motor development and active lifestyles.
Music and movement sessions featuring singing, dancing, rhythm activities, and musical instruments.
Hands-on free play experiences such as play dough, puzzles, construction materials, sensory activities, and dramatic play that promote creativity, problem-solving, and social skills.
Literacy, numeracy, and cognitive learning opportunities embedded throughout the day through story time, access to books, counting activities, number recognition games, early writing experiences, and exposure to letters and sounds in meaningful ways.
Regular incursions and excursions, along with visits from community members who share their knowledge, talents, and experiences, helping children develop a strong connection to their local community.
